My son is starting a new job at the Memphis airport and is looking for a reasonably priced apartment with a decent commute to the airport. We researched near Memphis but have been told the Southaven may be better. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Is it safe to assume he is an Air Traffic Controller, based on your id? We just moved to Southaven because my husband will be working ATC at the airport as well. He has not started commuting yet, but we chose the CivicCenter Apts, with hopes it will be a reasonable commute time. As for the price, it's a great deal for us from what we were used to paying in Charlotte, NC. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.

There's a ton of apartments if you get off I-55 south at Church Road. They're all over the place. I work at the airport as well and live off Church Road. Takes me about 25 minutes to leave the neighborhood get to the Interstate make it to work, clear security and get into my building. Not bad if you ask me.

I assume your son is pretty young. He should look in downtown Memphis and Mud Island. Southaven is more a family place, and the people I know that are young and single there are bored out of their mind. There's tons more for young people in downtown Memphis. Mud Island is virtually crime free and the apartments are fairly inexpensive (though more than Southaven). Downtown has very low crime in the areas that professional people live but not as crime free as Mud Island.

Actually my son is a pilot for Airnet. I am a controller at Chicago center. Thanks for the input. We are looking at all options.
