How is Gulfport fairing in regards to the rebuilding efforts? Is there still a lot of unlivable buildings? What about trees, where they all wiped out along the coast? Is there a lot of work in this area?

coastline is pretty bare, all the big nice houses are gone that were on 90.
a bunch inland have been repaired.
Trees are growing good this year!
however ones on beach were dug out by accident in Gulfport.
the ones that were spared seem to be growing now.

I was noticing how all the older homes along the coast were wiped out, the pictures are hard to look at, I love old homes and some of those homes were so beautiful. Very Sad, it can always be rebuilt, but the history will never be recovered.

I found an old book the other day, about hurricane camille...
Pictures of the coast look like they did when katrina hit.
I know the coast will come back stronger than ever, It will just take some time.

I have been to Gulfport and Biloxi four times in the past three months and I have seen progress with each trip that I have taken.

Sadly, many of the homeowners cannot affort to rebuild and cannot afford the higher insurance rates, if they can get insurance. Therefore a lot of land is for sale that once had the beautiful antebellum homes. Many of the stores have decided not to rebuild, restaurants and convenience stores and gas stations cannot be found on Hwy 90. Some fast food places have rebuilt but not many.

High rise condos are being built on either side of 90, it makes me sick to my stomach each time Idrive by them.

The old Biloxi that I knew and fell in love with is gone. One bright spot, I ate at Mary Mahoneys trip before last and they are up and running, had signs posting the amount of water it had and boy it was sure engulfed.

we are planning a trip to biloxi aug 15th and are staying at the quality inn on beach blvd. do you have any idea about this inn or this area. i have read both good and bad reviews but needed recent input. Or do you have any recommendations.

all the hotels along beach blvd stay full, so they must keep them pretty clean. I have never stayed there. The new Holiday Inn looks great and if it is run by the same people as before the hurricane, it will be top notch.

I'm afraid that I have only stayed at the Beu the times I was there this year. during our convention, a friend stayed at either the quality or budget and said it was pretty nice.

things are starting to come back slowly, very very slowly. The area heavily hit on HWY 90, not doing so good. I suppose most of those people are dealing with insurance cases still at this point. I live in two towns east, Ocean Springs, I drove down Front Beach Road and there is a decent amount of rebuilding going on. Ocean Springs is pushing forward with rebuilding. The bridge that connects Ocean Springs and Biloxi is due to be open this November. The Hard Rock Casino opened. They are building a Jimmy Buffet Casino. I personally think the area is a great opportunity for investors. St.Martin and Ocean Springs boast the better school districts in the area.
