Add on to the list people of Mississippi! Let's show visitors we have lots to do in Mississippi!

You like to Fish?

I recommend Eagle Lake and the Rez. these are guranteed "go to" spots whenever I have visitors from out of state. We always catch something good to eat. Bass and Trout. But ther are plenty statewide to check out, look here. I just found this few weeks ago looking for more lakes to fish.
Mississippi Fishing: Grenada Lake Fishing Report

You like to gamble?

Although we have Casinos all over the state, I recommend Gulport/Biloxi because you get the addded amenities of the white sand beach that runs the length of the coastline. Not to mention you can buy a trip to cat island out there.

You want learn some Mississippi history?

We got Museums on every corner in every town almost. And if that's not enough, take a day trip and ride the Natchez Trace which stretches from the Nothern boreder to the southern border of the state. Ride the historical route the Native Americans used to travel when they ruled the state.

You want Recreation?
Well, if you're active like me, you need a bike. period. It's some decent bike trails around the state but not nearly enough. So you're mostly going to ride on streets and dirt roads.

Swimming/water parks - Geyser Falls in Choctaw Mississippi is my recommendation. Hidden gem in the state that a lot of people don't know about. Depending on what part of the state you're in, Google map it for directions and mileage. I know it's only about 25 miles from Jackson going North.

Also, if you have a jet ski(like myself) use can utilize the Rez and other lakes to your advantage.

Also, if you can shoot basketball, there are places around the state for pick up games at certain parks or even go on any of the college campus and get a game with the students. I've done this at JSU, Alcorn, Miss. State and Millsaps.

You want Nightlife?

Danicing/Clubs/Live music- To be honest the most active city in terms of nightlife is Jackson in my opinion. I mean if you want that "city feel" at least. Not a whole lot of places to go but the ones that are most popular are Dreamz, Hal & Mals'(live music), and LOTS of karaoke bars. other than that, Tinseltown theater or Bowling.

Dining - Try PF Changs in Ridgeland. Arguably the best new restaurant in Mississippi in my opinon. And we specialize in non-chain soul food restaurants and fast food in Mississippi statewide as well. Check with your relatives in the area you're visting to find out what's good.

Need somewhere to go on a Sunny weekend?

Try your back porch with a huge glass of Mississippi lemonade. Can't beat that!

I never knew there was a water park near Philadelphia... looks awesome.

Anyway, to add to your biking, here is a good site: Mississippi Bike Trails, Bicycle Guidebooks, and Trail Maps

I personally recommend the miles of single- and double-track trails at the Noxubee Hills Mountain Biking Trails in the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge in the Tombigbee National Forest (near Ackerman). Except I wouldn't go during deer hunting season.

Go to Clarksdale.

While you're in the area, stay at Shack Up Inn. They have a bunch of shotgun houses they pulled up and formed a courtyard. We stayed in a cotton bin which has been converted into a room. Great fun.

Eat Ground Zero Blues club and stick around for the music. If it's too loud there, drift on up the street and visit Hambones during the day. The musicians at Hambones play Mississippi delta blues (No electric guitar) and sing.

Go to the Blues museum, too. You'll learn the difference between Mississippi delta blues and Chicago blues and develop a preference for one or the other.

Biking - Long Leaf Trace (http://http://www.longleaftrace.org/ - broken link) - 40 miles of paved rails to trails from Prentiss to Hattiesburg. Regular events are held on the Trace (fundraisers, 5K runs, etc.). Plans are underway to extend the Trace from the USM campus to downtown.

Beaches - not much to explain here. Gulf Coast beaches make a fun and cheap day.

Sports - one can always catch a football, basketball, or baseball game in Starkville, Hattiesburg, or Oxford. Jackson has the Mississippi Braves minor league baseball team.

Yep, I still ocassionally date this Choctaw female and she turned me on to it a few yearss ago. I go at least 10-15 during the Summer. It's a nice getaway for day trips from Jackson. And I recommend if you stay all day, that you rent a Cabana. sooo cool! oh and make sure you ride EVERWET!!!

This is really simple and may not appeal to everyone, but Mississippi is good for just riding backroads and finding old bridges, cemeteries, barns, country stores, and the like.

Nothing better than riding out in the country and stopping at a country store for a grilled cheese sandwich and a chocolate milk.
