I read all kind of bad things about Durant. I live here, by choice. My father grew up around here and when he died 15 years ago left me a house in town. I also have a house in the greater Phoenix, AZ area that I am selling. People talk about crime, I have never had to be afraid about robberies, murders, rapes, etc. like I had to face in the Phoenix area. Yes, times are more difficult now that they were 40 years ago. There is little work here, farmers have a more difficult time, etc. But for someone who is retired, it is a nice little town to live in and safe.

Can anyone tell me if Mizpah is (or used to be) a black cemetery? It's not listed in the GNIS directory, but I suspect it's one of the two locations labelled "Durant Cemetery." One of them is on the east side of Highway 51, just outside the center of town. The other is on the west side of 51, a couple of miles south of town.
