If you are travelling northeast across Mississippi, I suggest you think of staying in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The area I suggest is exit 65 (I believe) at the intersection of Hwy 49 N and Hwy 98 West (the Oak Grove/Columbia exit). There are many nice hotels/motels and restaurants in this area as well as Turtle Creek Mall. When you are ready to resume your trip, get back on Hwy 49 N, go to exit 67 (I believe) and that will be the I-59 N exit (to Laurel/Meridian). Hope this will help you. Have a safe trip.

I AM SO SORRY -

I gave the wrong directions in my previous post. Normally I blame these incidents on old age and dead brain cells but I have another to add. Today I had my guest bathroom tub/surround reglazed so I am a little la-la from the fumes.

Coming north on I-59, you will take the Purvis/Columbia (Hwy 98) exit so
disregard all of my instructions about Hwy 49. Then when you resume your trip you just get back on I-59 and boogie northeast to Laurel/Meridian.

I hope you will forgive this lamebrain.

Meridian is a little over 80 miles from Hattiesburg. Travelling I-59, you will go through several very small communities. Laurel is the next largest city but I wouldn't stay there. In Meridian, you will need to look for a place to stay on I-20 (the east side of Meridian). The Hattiesburg area I suggested will be your best bet if you are trying to decide between Meridian, Laurel and Hattiesburg.

Let me know if I can provide you with any further info.

Just thought I'd let you know we stayed in Meridian. And you're right there isn't anything between there and Hattisburg.
