You won't be hard pressed to find that commute. Though you may on the going out part in Gulfport. There are a few bars to speak of, though I don't know of anything upscale outside of the Casinos. Housing is cheap, find something along the beach as it allows easier access to main routes. 90 and 49 are your main highways in the area. A nice apartment may be easier to find than a "nice" house in the area if you don't consider beach houses "nice".

Downtown Ocean Springs is a great area. This is where the best local restaurants are. Long Beach, Pass Christian, and Bay St Louis are quieter but also great location on the beach. Bay St Louis has an artsy little downtown area. Biloxi is busier with beach and casinos but also some cool older neighborhoods probably with plenty of houses to rent, near the Natatorium if you can find that, about a block inland from the beach and west of I-110 where it intersects with the beach highway. There are plenty of apartments roughly near the mall by the beach, around Pass Rd and where Biloxi and Gulfport border each other.

I just got back from Long Beach last night (my first visit), and let me tell you....
Those trains come frequently thru out the day and night, all hours, and they don't let up on the horn either. Apparently there is no noise ordinance in place. I was surprised bc I leave close to trains here in VA, but after 10 pm they can't sound their horns. They can down there though!
It was a bit annoying, but i'm sure if you lived there long enough, you prob won't notice after awhile.
