Good day All,

I'm looking for cities similar in demographics to Columbia, MO:

Population: 108, 500

MHI: $42,800

MHV: $166,000

Population Density: 2045 people per square mile

College/University: Enrollment of 26,553

Is there a way to find similar cities using this cite? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Look up "list college towns" using your favorite search engine. The resulting lists you find should give you a good place to start.

Fayetteville Arkansas and to a slightly lesser extent Ann Arbor Michigan are probably the closest matches to what you're looking for.

Fayetteville, Arkansas

Population, 78,800

MHI: 45,074

MHV: 153,300

Population Density: 1,336.6 people per square mile

College/University Enrollment: 23,300

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Population 113,394

MHI: $56,829

MHV: $241,340

Population Density: 1,748 per square mile

College/University: Enrollment 40,924

Also Chico, Ca and Iowa City would probably fit the bill. Both are college towns with populations, demographics, income levels and density similar to Columbia MO.

Only way I know is to screen through factfinder using multiple tables. I went ahead and ran a couple for you to get a decent list (by county, which is easier). Screening was, compared to Boone Co MO, within 0.5 to 2x as populous, within than 0.5 to 2x (by percent) non-white, within 0.5x to 2.0x (by percent) Asian, median household income +/-$10,000, % over 25s with grad degree +/-10%. Couldn't use your precise criteria because the home values and college enrollment data are tough to find.

Basically, moderately diverse, well educated, with above average but not extremely high levels of wealth. Mostly counties with college towns.

Here you go: Monroe County, IndianaTippecanoe County, IndianaJohnson County, IowaStory County, IowaDouglas County, KansasFayette County, KentuckyIngham County, MichiganKalamazoo County, MichiganLancaster County, NebraskaRensselaer County, New YorkSchenectady County, New YorkOrange County, North CarolinaCleveland County, OklahomaBenton County, OregonCentre County, PennsylvaniaMontgomery County, VirginiaWhatcom County, WashingtonMonongalia County, West Virginia

With a quick look down the list, there is Indiana U, Purdue, Iowa State, Iowa, Kentucky, WVU, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Nebraska...etc. IMO, Ann Arbor is a pretty big stretch for Columbia. Ann Arbor is more an extended surburb of Detroit with a college and more wealth, whereas Colombia is more or less a medium sized city that serves as a true college town away from major metros (much more like Bloomington and Lafayette, In, State College PA and so on).
