I had forgot about Mitsubishi until I was given the Lancer a few days back as a rental car. Terrible, terrible vehicle. Sitting on their seats is comparable to sitting on a pile of bricks and the middle arm rest is so far back it's completely useless. The compressor made an obnoxiously, loud clicking noise every five minutes which was perplexing since it was a 2012 model.
Interesting. Mine must be different being a GTS model. I drove it home from Huntington Beach after I bought it (8 hours - 485 miles) and I was really happy with them. Got out at home and I didn't feel stiff at all (and I'm 6' 4", 225 lbs). They were more comfortable seats than any of the competitors I tried. I guess the armrest being where it is fits me. My air conditioner doesn't make weird noises either. You can't really gauge anything by a rental - they're put through hell. My last was a Toyota Camry with a V6 and it felt like the whole car was coming apart.
The Evolution is cool, but it's a weird niche car. It's by all accounts better performance and "fun" -wise over, say a WRX/STi, yet I still picked the WRX because it was more livable.
And for the top of the line Evo, you're paying 40k. You could get a lot of fun 2 door coupes, or a decent 3-series for that amount of money.
I've never considered any other Mitsubishis, and always question someone's choice, when they buy something like a Galant. Really? Who buys a Galant?
Mitsubishi should have left the US Market years ago. The only people who buy them have terrible credit and wind up getting their cars repossessed because they can't make their payments. If you need service there are very few dealerships left. Resale value is horrible. Mitsubishi has to focus on other areas outside the US.
I almost bought one back in 2008--so glad I didn't. And I am not saying they are terrible cars.
The above comment was written over 8 years ago, and Mitsubushi is still here. They are still saying that Mitsubushi should leave the US to their sister company, Nissan, and focus on Asia.

Their dealer network is so small now that it would be a nightmare to own one.
Mitsubushi is 1/3 owned by Nissan.
Mitsubushi Motors North America peaked in US sales in 2002 then dropped quickly during the recession. Sales have somewhat rebounded by 2019, but are now dropping very quickly again.

In North America they were squeezing out a small profit in fiscal years 2017 and 2018 but followed by large losses in 2019 and 2020. Many Japanese companies end their fiscal years on 31 March so the sales total for fiscal years and calendar years are slightly different,
Globally, the number of units sold by Mitsubushi is similar to both Mazda and Subaru but Mazda has 31.3% of it's sales and Subaru has 80.9% of sales in the US and Canada for the last fiscal year.

With US sales of only 49,000 in the first half of fiscal year 2021 they are highly unlikely to beat last year's 113,000 vehicle sales for all of North America, let alone the anticipated 155,000 vehicles.
