Sorry for a negative update, but I visited Fairhope today with family, after decades. It was surprisingly unfriendly. We nodded, smiled, spoke to people we met on the streets or pier...not a single one returned our greeting. Snotty rich people? I was shocked at the difference from 3 decades ago. Much worse than New York!

The most beautiful scenary, nicest people, good shopping, both quaint and malls (20 minutes to Malls off Hiway 10), polite drivers and so on.

As a local, I found the same thing about Foley/Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. The tourists have completely ruined it. From Spring Break to Labor Day the crowds are horrible, traffic is a nightmare, and all the hotels charge highway-robbery rates. Definitely, not the same place I grew up visiting regularly in the 1980s/1990s. My last trip there was in 2015 and after that fiasco I swore to never go back.

Gosh, we are moving to the area because, in part, of the friendly folks!

Tourists not knowing where they are going ahead of time and constantly hitting the breaks while in the left lane. Hmmm people moving down here in droves because they read about it on southern living and wanting the culture changed to that of where they came from. I also don't like the fake uppity vibes you see far more often now then you used to. People used to know each other and help each other out more in the area, and not 50 years ago like 2000 ish.

Also those very same people moving down in droves has catapulted the housing prices. A new 3/2 in fairhope in 2000 would have been 200ish with a 1/2 acre and mature trees coupled with a nice house. Today that same house is 400-450. That house in 2000 on the water would have been 450, today is a million...
