Hey guys,

Looking for suggestions traveling from Dallas to Spanish Fort.

Which of the two is a better drive as far as scenery and traffic?

Route Option #1 - 20 > 49 > 98
Route Option #2 - 49 > 71 > 190 > 12

Okay took me a minute figure out what route #2. BTW I-12 only exists until it merges with I-10 near Slidell LA and becomes I-10

Anyways route #1 since you are actually visiting the area and not just passing through. The first route will allow you experience Mobile via highway 98.

You’ll be in 4 lane highways up until you reached Mobile County, then it shifts to a 2 lane road (as soon as you enter the county you will potentially see road construction which is the creation of highway 158, a bypass highway for 98). After going through a small town you’ll reach the beginning of typical suburbia, after you pass I-65 and merge onto Springhill Avenue is when the fun begins, you’ll see a beautiful road like with large trees and beautiful mansions as well as some historical architecture as you roll through midtown and you’ll eventually end up going through Downtown Mobile and you will pass by some very old architecture from as well as a some skyscrapers, one that will rival the size of some of the tallest skyscrapers in Dallas near the other side of Downtown you will enter the Bankhead tunnel and emerge onto the Highway 98/90 causeway which is an 11 mile stretch of water and marshes on either side of the road with the occasional high class seafood restaurant and you’ll be able to see the USS Alabama on your right side as you drive with the I-10 Bayway overhead and as you finish the 11 mile journey, you will be at you destination at Spanish Fort. So basically, your last 45-60 minutes of your journey is filled with some pretty good sights if you choice route 1

Yea, route #1 is better. route #2 kinda sucks, its plagued by Highway patrol all through Lousiana and there isn't much to see but swamp and decrepit bridges. Baton Rouge is okay but I-12 is a bear. I-20 is pretty much free flowing all the way to Atlanta (you're not going that far) once you get out of Dallas and is in better condition and slightly.. ..just slightly better scenery.. ..neither of them are what I would call scenic roads though.

Your best bet is to take I-20 to Jackson, then take US 49 to Hattiesburg. Then take US 98 to Mobile. Not as many big cities along that route, but still not starved for services.

Love Field to Pensacola then rent a car.
I-10 west to Mobile or take the scenic beach route.
