Helena is a great and friendly small town, but has limited public transportation at least by bigger city stardards. The town is small enough that you might be able to just walk to your job depending on where you live.
If you look at the classifieds at (helenair.com) that will give you a better idea on the rental market for housing.
Are there any specific questions that you would like answers to? If you search the entire forum for "Helena," you'll probably find a lot of the answers you're looking for.

Depending on what part of Helena you live in, you might be able to just walk, as mthawki suggested. However, although Helena is small and rather dense, the valley is quite large, and alot of people live out in the valley (or around East Helena) versus Helena. Thus, public transportation is rather limited. You will probably want to invest in an automobile.

Depending on where you are from, Helena may be more or less expensive than where you are from. Do understand that Helena is not the cheapest place in the world to live. Compared to where I live, Helena is considerably higher on the cost of living aspects. There are several apartment complexes around, as well as duplexes and quad-plexes (I used to live in one on Sunlight Circle in the upper east side).

All in all, Helena is a great place to live. I think you will really like it there.. very scenic, lots of outdoorsy type activities, and a wonderful downtown really make Helena unique.
