And why? I'd welcome any other suggestions as well.

Well from all the people that choose to live on the road that I follow, the Benchmark is their bible.

I too have been using them and they are really helpful for scouting out beautiful public lands to stay on and explore.
I'm coming from a place of exploring beautiful spots without big crowds. A non campground so to speak.
Their forest roads, NF lands, and BLM land is pretty helpful in addition to great current maps.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I know that some areas won't have cell reception and I've come to rely on google maps just a little too much.

Delorme is a good resource, but sometimes "roads" are nothing more than cow trails And the designations/boundary lines of private, state, federal lands are occasionally just a smidgen off.

I am not familiar with Benchmark.
I use Delorme when doing the early research on potential property purchases to get a general idea of location & adjacent land holdings. Locally available at hunting supply stores/hardware stores "quad" maps are more accurate.

If using for exploring/hunting etc., always inquire locally at places like the US Forest Service office to make certain the location is public land and the road is a public road (& passable).

There is an app called Coverage that you could get and it tells you, well coverage for an area and how many bars for each cell carrier.
I miss maps and like having them around and yep, google maps is too easy and convenient. Although it still creeps me out how it knows exactly where I am and stalks me with that blue dot

Thanks guys, we won't be doing anything too off road or off trail. Just checking out different parts of the state.
Appreciate the tips!

Delorme Montana Gazetteer has been useful.
