We will be driving out to Washington in late April and May just wounding how driving on I-90 is or should take another route.

Could be glorious. There can be late heavy snowfall spring blizzards in April, but not typically in May. If there is one, it will be over in a day. Montana highways have excellent snow removal.

Generally speaking you'll be in the clear. It is likely to rain, there is a chance of snow. Just keep an eye on the road report and changing weather conditions and make sure you have warm clothing, food, and water in the car and you will probably be okay.

Should be fine, if a surprise blizzard does appear it'll be cleared up quickly. January-late March are the times to really worry.

You can get soggy snow at the top of the pass any time of year, and it's quite likely in April/May. I used to go that way end of April and end of May every year, and usually got snow up there, but the road was good enough regardless. In any event, if it snows on I-90, other routes will be worse.
