Does anyone know when the Beartooth Pass, between Red Lodge and Cooke City, opens for the season?

They typically open it by the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

If you check the plowing videos you'll see that they're down to cleaning the rest areas, sweeping the road and putting in guard rails, typically the last tasks that need to be done before it opens.

One of the great drives on this continent - fantastic scenery and the road
is very well built.

Didn't open as scheduled for yesterday due to snow. Red Lodge got 8 inches so more of course up on the pass.

has been called "the most beautiful drive in America," by late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt. I drove it many years ago and totally agree. However, not for the faint-hearted - I was terrified and it snowed/hailed on top in July!!!

It's open today from Red Lodge to Wyoming line only. Closed at border. We drove up to Vista Pt. today. Beautiful this afternoon with all the snow. Hopefully it will be open all the way very soon, maybe tomorrow if we are lucky.
