Yosemite is amazing too. Grand Canyon in Arizona is further away, (I don't know how much time you will have), but it is absolutely astonishing.

How long are you going to be in the USA? Yellowstone is almost adjacent to the Grand Teton National Park. It would be a shame to see Yellowstone and miss the Tetons. My husband and I spent one week split between both parks. You could spend two weeks or more in Yellowstone alone.

You can easily spend your entire trip in Yellowstone and never see it all. If you finish seeing everything you'd like to see there, I would travel to Glacier National Park, but you're talking about an 9 hour drive or so. Like I said before, my husband and I spent 9 days in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We were never bored and never ran out of things to do.

I agree that you should see Grand Teton National Park while you are visiting Yellowstone, then go north in Montana to Glacier National Park, and, if you can, to the Canadian side of the park to Waterton, Canada, also.

The north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota would be ideal if that fella has the time. I take more pictures and say "awesome" more while hiking around the north shore than anywhere I've ever been. Waterfalls, semi-mountainous terrain, volcanic gorges, spectacular vistas, etc., oh and the lake, almost forgot. The drive from Two Harbors to the border with Canada (where the high waterfall is) is only a few hours, but you'll see one heck of a lot even if you don't explore the many state parks along the way.
I can't wait to see Yellowstone as this guy soon enough will, and ideally it'll be the first time I'm impressed as much as by the north shore of Superior. Seeing the Grand Canyon and the Redwoods is a pretty good start for a foreign visitor, good to see!
