Hi,

Due to the remote nature of work, I am moving from Toronto to Montreal. I sold my condo in Toronto and going to rent in Montreal for some time before I finally settle there (or not?).

What I started hearing from ppl (as soon as I announced my decision) scares me a bit. Arrogance, poor healthcare, no one will even talk to me if I speak a word of English.

I am a single professional (IT, project management), 45 y.o., female, of Eastern European origin. I have been living in Toronto for 18 years, it never grew on me.

I am going to learn French as soon as I arrive, I am good at learning languages.

Please tell me I am not making a mistake.

All I am going to say is that this is wildly false, and you will see the opposite happen: if people hear you struggle with French, they will switch to English to accommodate you. Most people can (and will) speak English.

The part about the healthcare is true. Two years into the pandemic and no improvements have been made. My family that still live in Montreal have gone to private insurance.
