The credit isn't horrible. It was maybe 3 K in credit card debt that we paid off already, but it sticks on your report afaik. We recently got denied for a credit card, and I figured, if you get denied for one of those, you can forget about getting a loan for a house. So we have paid all debt, but enough time has not elapsed to get off her credit score.
Are you sure that is her only debt? Have you looked through her credit report?
To answer your original question. If you qualify by yourself, credit score AND ratios, then by all means purchase the house now. If you need her income then you'll have to work at improving her credit.

Without knowing the circumstances of either your or your future spouse it is really hard to generalize about the reason that the CC app was denied.
The above url is the only one that really works for FREE, but even then the bureaus will try pretty hard to get you to buy more info / subscriptions to get your FICO. I generally do not recommend that, as when you apply for a loan 99% of the decent originators will tell your FICOs for free anyhow...

Don't buy a house until you are married, be smart! As already said, pull her credit report and fix any outstanding debt. If she has a credit card, charge everything on it but pay it off each month, as someone said above.

If you guys got denied for a credit card then your credit is in bad shape. Only 3k in credit debt shouldn't have that much effect on your score unless of course there were missed payments and in that case it will take years to correct. And when you say "we" does that mean your credit wasn't good enough to pull hers up?
As everyone has stated fix your credit first, that way you will get better rates.
hmm conflicting info ITT. I'm taking it all in, thanks for your responses.
