Advice: 1990 Yamaha 250 purchase (bike, motor, buying, mechanical)

Hello folks,

I am looking at buying a Yamaha 250 dirtbike from a private party. I will have a knowledgeable person with me to check the mechanical conditions of the bike (I know a little, but I always bring him for expert knowledge.)

So, a couple of questions. First, what do you think the of the general deal and value.



1990 Yamaha YZ250WR (Guy is unsure, but from picture based research this seems to be the 2-stroke, WR or Wide-Range Transmission model)

We have tentatively agreed to $750.

The only thing he has noticed is it is a little hard to start and idle rough. (It has been sitting for awhile he claims)

No title/paperwork. I will create a bill of sale for him to sign.

Nothing else he says in an issue beyond normal wear and tear.

Thoughts? Anything I should look for? This seem like a worthy buy? Would you recommend any tests or certain areas to inspect or test?

$750 isn't a bad deal but I'd avoid the 2-strokes. It's a dying technology not to mention the fact that you have to rebuild the motor every 100 or so hours. Major pain in the arse.
