I played with them a bit as a kid, but am now considering one as a commuter option because of the price of fuel. Who has ideas? Honda Rebel? Suzuki dual Sport? I'm after fuel mileage, 50+. I don't care how fancy and sexy it is, but I'm much too manly for a scooter. Any bikers out there to offer some advice?

I've been riding all my life and I would go with a dualsport, it's a all around bike, the only problem is that the seat height is tall, i was going to buy one myself but I was on my toes

A Kawasaki KLR 650 gets great mileage and there's a large number of accessories available to configure it as a commuter or just about anything else you'd like.

Get over the manly thing!!! The Honda Silverwing (600) looks sporty and has enough pep to keep up with traffice and great on the fuel.
I have a Honda Helix (250)and I get 70 plus per gallon. This is the beginning of my third summer with this one and I have almost 9th on it. Plus room to store things.

Agreed! Scooters especially maxiscooters are great for commuting because they have lots of storage compartments already.

If you want gas and never go above 65 I would get a Ninja 250. The 2008 models look just like any other sport bike, cost under $4000, and get 65 mpg.

Talking you won't be sorry

If your going to get one you may as well get one you can carry more than a sandwich in you pocket on. get one of these and you get all the comforts of your car. you can listen to the radio go to the grocery store and you can be very very comfortable. i love mine, i wouldn't trade it for anything metioned accept the silverwing because it's similar. i've had ten different bikes alot of what is mentioned and this is by far the best yet.
