When 'French Kiss' came out, it was really an excellent film. The sensitivity Kevin Kline brought to the role was really amazing. And the humor. The story of a ner'do'well hooking up with a middle-class brat was touchng. The gentleman who played the detective knew how to throw in a curve too. Meg Ryan was fine as a niave young adult. Not your usual thief story. I really liked it. Made me appreciate French culture a little more.
In think Kevin Kline is a grossly under-rated actor and his performance in "French Kiss" was pitch perfect . I am French and his rendition of that particular kind of French men was so, so perfect and very funny. But I have loved him in every film I have seen him in ...
I saw French Kiss when it came out in the theater, and I don't think I've seen it since. Good movie though.
Kline is also fantastic in Dave (great movie from the '90s) and A Fish Called Wanda (the funniest movie of the '80s and second funniest movie of all time).
