Yes, I've got one of those old things, plays 12-inch laser discs. The discs are now dirt cheap on ebay, etc.

A friend had one back in the 70's, I recall me and my buddy discovering the superior "pause" feature it had over VCR's of the time. We watched the opening sequence of Jaws with the topless teen running down the beach more times than was good for us.

LaserDisc was first available on the market, in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 15, 1978,[7] two years after the introduction of the VHSVCR, and four years before the introduction of the CD (which is based on laser disc technology). ... Pioneer Electronics later purchased the majority stake in the format and marketed it as both LaserVision (format name) and LaserDisc (brand name) in 1980, with some releases unofficially referring to the medium as "Laser Videodisc".
We went through a couple of Laserdisc players while also owning a series of VCRs. The Laserdisc players were kind of fragile.
Has anyone on this forum owned a Laserdisc player?
yes, Mike From Back East has one but he's the only one on this forum that I know of
