I just watched Tombstone for the third time, a gritty and pretty authentic Western in my opinion. But I continue to be surprised at the choice of Bill Paxton to play one of the Earp brothers. I just don't think "Big, bad ass lethal gun slinger" when I see Bill Paxton.
Sure....they are all actors. But some pull off certain roles with great authenticity. Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday just stole the show. Michael Biehn and Powers Boothe brought an era of authenticity to their roles. Kurt Russell is a very popular and competent actor....as well as a great guy. I think a young Clint Eastwood would have been better though.
But Bill Paxton as a cold blooded, ruthless, gun slinging killer? Never was able to suspend the thought that he didn't fit the role.
In fact...I will bet $1 that he is a friend of Kurt Russell or Val Kilmer.
Yea, I'm watching Tombstone on AMC as well. I've seen this movie so many times I'm memorizing the script! I agree on Paxton, he just doesn't seem to fit the gunfighter type.
The guy who steals the show is Val Kilmer. So many great one liners! Favorite one-"Maybe poker just ain't your game Ike. I know-let's have a spelling contest!" GREAT!
And talk about noted stars in this movie. Whew! LOTS!
Kurt Russell always seems to know how to play his cards. Goldie and Kurt "fled" to Canada in 2003 just as the Bushbarian Reign of Terror was crashing down. Good timing I would think...real estate wise.
Bill Paxton= Aliens. He had some funny lines in that movie. " Game over man, game over, what are we gonna do now man"
Exactly.
