I have been a fan of the 1978 movie "Grease" since shortly after it was released. I have seen it more times than I can even count.

But I have found that if I watch it now it is a lot more enjoyable to skip through the musical parts. It seems strange, being that it is a musical movie.

How do you feel about the movie? Can you still watch it with the music? Or do you prefer to watch it without?

Still love it with the music. I could listen to the soundtrack alone and have done many songs on karaoke.

I know every single song and adore all of it (well-Hopelessly Devoted & Beauty School Drop out bite!). My DH laughs because I sing "We Go Together" with every single word .

The movie would be boring without the songs.

Of course I listen to the songs. You seriously would skip through Greased Lightnin'? Though like Melanie I would feel no remorse by skipping Hopelessly Devoted.

Funny thing about Grease - for many many years I had it recorded from a TV showing on a VHS tape. So I never heard all the swearing and sexual words cause they would have cut it out. Then just a few years ago I saw the unedited version and heard the more, um, colorful language from the greasers. Kinda shocking really!

For my money, Grease > American Graffiti.

The songs are the best part of the movie! Avery mentioned the cussing and innuendo, when I watched this movie as a kid I had no idea what "he swam by and got me so damp" was supposed to mean.

even some of the lyrics to "greased lightning" are NSFW "You know that ain't no ****, we'll be getting lots of tit in greased lightning!"

I watch the entire movie. I love musicals and Grease is probably my favorite one of all time.

Hypocritical because it's my 'status message' and profile -- but I usually skip through Beauty School Drop out. It drags the movie down. I don't hate the song but I rarely want to watch it. The rest I don't skip through, I love that movie.

As I've gotten older I really love the theme song, but when I was a kid, I didn't like it. Also the lyrics to 'greased lightening' are kind of dirty, LOL, didn't realize that either as a kid.

Of course not! I jump up, dance, and sing into my microphone a.k.a. cell phone. The music is what makes the movie a classic. Otherwise it'd be a generic high school love story.

I've posted elsewhere, I hate musicals in general, but have always loved Grease....ever since it came out when I was in 4th grade and I saw it 3 times in the theater. Then a few years later it would play all the time on HBO. My sister and I are in our 40s and still make Grease references (we had it completely memorized).

The only part that SUCKS is when Danny is singing "Sandy" (stranded at the drive-in) at the drive-in movie. Ugh. That was always when I'd take a break, go to the bathroom, put the dog out, make some snacks, etc. All the other songs, I like. I could just gag when John Travolta is singing "why-y-y-y-oh-why."
