Hi everyone, I'm looking for examples of a very well-known trope: the hero returns home after being gone accomplishing some high feats. I know Joseph Campbell has written about this and that Star Wars is generally considered a good example, but I'm looking for something more specific > the hero come back to his family, in his home (a real, physical house), sometimes to the general surprise (because he was missing, thought to be dead...).
I'm sure I have seen this numerous times but I can't name examples.
If you can think of instances of this trope inside of the war and western genres... It would be a plus.

thanx !!

A History of Violence (2005) Loved the very end scene when he came home. He was not a typical "Good guy" either.

Agreed. Loved that movie.

Viggo (Aragorn) also returned home to family in THE LORD OF THE RINGS, as did Sam, Merry, and Pippin.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE

THE LION KING

FINDING NEMO

UNFORGIVEN (although his return is implied, not shown)

THE GODFATHER (the whole movie is about the hero coming home to the Family, although by the end he's more of an anti-hero than a hero)

Cold Mountain - Jude Law is a Confederate soldier trying to make his way home to his sweetheart, Nicole Kidman ... and rightfully so!

The Deer Hunter -- DeNiro and friends went to Nam and came back just hollow shells of themselves ... even though the VC's they encountered didn't even speak Vietnamese.

Born on the Fourth of July -- Tom Cruise in the Ron Kovic memoir about going to Nam and coming home a paraplegic and joins the anti-war movement -- the last good Oliver Stone movie.

Brothers -- Jake Gyllenhaal takes care of his brother's wife, Natalie Portman, while his brother, Tobey Maguire, is in Afghanistan. Hilarity ensues when Tobey returns home after being captured and released.

Coming Home -- Jane Fonda falls in love with paraplegic vet, Jon Voight, while her husband is on tour in Nam. Hilarity ensues when hubby, Bruce Dern, comes home.

Thanks for all the replies, those are excellent choices! I can't believe I didn't think of Cast Away... There's the TV show Homeland too, I thought about that one after posting.
