I loved him as Batman myself he fit the custom well Keaton has always been a very good actor. it wasn't as dark as Nolan's version but it was a start & without it we might not of had the trilogy we got today.
It's a shame that we didn't get to see more of Keaton being Wayne like we did with Bale. It was a bit on the lighter side & a bit campy but it was very good for it's time.
Do you know why Keaton was cast as Batman in 1989? He seemed like a poor choice - were they trying to save money?
The director looked back on the film later and said it's not very good, and I agree.
When I first saw the older Batman series as a kid, I liked them. Now, older, went back to watch them and it's a sh**y movie. So damn cheesey and a complete joke. I can't believe I actually went to the movie theater
Keaton fit the "feel" of the film, which was somewhat action-oriented but a bit campy at the same time. He and Nicholson played off each other pretty well. If they had been trying to make a "dark" or "grim & gritty" film, he would have been a terrible choice, but that's not what they were going for at all.
The 1989 Batman film was sort of an homage to the classic Batman comic books (not really even the comics of the late '80s by that point, which included Robin being killed by the Joker, etc).
You didn't have the nerd culture back then that we do now. I remember it being said that you don't cast Batman you cast Bruce Wayne and for baby boomers, even the youngest just making their own money Bruce Wayne was Adam West, not a dark knight.
You werent around in 1988-89, people were asking this same thing then, Michael Keaton as Batman? Wha?? That's why Tim Burton had to cut a quick trailer a whole year before the movie was released to convince people he made the right choice
Lol, if I were to consider Batman casting boo-boos, I sure wouldn't be thinking of Michael Keaton.
LOL. How soon they forget.
