I remember when it came out in 1993, it was labeled by most critics as one of the worst films of the year. It was, however, one of the highest grossing movies of that year. I think that the movie is well-written, acted and directed. First of all, the movie is not about sex. Yes, the plot is sexy, and it has good-looking actors and glamorous locations. To me, the plot - and more specifically - the question it asks is:
If you were really desperate, could you do something unethical but legal ? If yes, would you be able to live with it?

What do you think?

It's near the top of my WORST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN list.

So I have to say I don't think it's underrated.

Definately a bad movie. One of the few movies I have walked out on at the theater.

A lame movie. Fortunately, Woody makes up for his mistake with this gem!

I thought it sucked
not ONE likable character
demi character was a sluute
woody character had NO sack, should NOT have taken her back
redford was stereotypical rich ba$tard who buys what he wants
hated that movie

Terrible movie. Even in its underrating, it was overrated. And it could have focused on.any number of "unethical things." Typically, sex (yawn) was the primary focus here, and that's how it was promoted.

You're being very kind to the movie in imagining they really hope to be raising ethical issues. Sorry, I don't think it's underrated at all, although I doubt it was really one of the worst films of the year.

To be honest, I can't really remember much about it. But I did think at the time that it was all about the factor. It wasn't really that much of a mind-expanding question for me.
