City of Joy. The book was about the life of a slum dweller in Calcutta, India. The movie cast Patrick Swayzee as the Polish priest in the slum. Awful all the way around.

The Natural. Saw the movie first, then read the book. Why change the ending in the movie? Very disappointed.

The Shining. Not the faintest glimmer of any of the subtle things in the book.

Horribly miscast. Not to mention there were all sorts of problems during shooting and it showed on the screen.

Another adaptation of a good book ruined by miscasting: Interview With The Vampire.

Really? I know that Anne Rice was not happy with Tom Cruise being cast as Le'stat--but after seeing his performance (one of his best IMHO) she loved him in the role
