I saw Eastern Promises . . . really enjoyed it. I'd like to see more Canadian films as I appreciate many foreign films, of all flavors. Thanks for the incentive to search out some more.

Men With Brooms. Who doesn't like a good curling film?

I like Cronenberg films. I've seen most of those. Atom Egoyan makes good films. Last Night by Don McKellar was great. Denis Villeneuve is a really good director and I have liked his films.

That brings up a good point:

What makes a Canadian film?

A Canadian director? Writer? Production company?

Denis Villeneuve is indeed Canadians, but nearly all his moves American productions. Billy Wilder was born in Austria, but no one thinks of him as anything but an American director.

So for a movie to be a "Canadian film," I really think it ought to be a Canadian production.

Denis Villeneuve has become too big for Canada. They can't afford him anymore I guess. Looks like 2010's Incendies was his last Canadian production. Barney's Version is another good Canadian film from 2010. I tend to think of films shot in Montreal as Canadian. I can almost always recognize the settings in Montreal, like street scenes in Life of Pi and Pawn Sacrifice.
