Alec Baldwin's speech in Glengarry Glen Ross is a great example. Everything in that scene works to create tension.

You are so welcome - I really, really recommend it!

I saw it in a theater and had no idea what Sophie's choice was. I remember literally sobbing during that scene! I mean, now you know but it's still a really powerful movie. I rewatched it recently and it's still great.

This was pretty intense.

Another one I can think of is when Dan Gallagher came home to find Alex (Glenn Close) talking to his wife in
Fatal Attraction.

Here's the quintessential, non-violent/action scene full of dramatic tension. There's no impending (physical) doom here. No monster about to emerge from a dark abyss. No jumping out of a burning skyscraper. Only a man who's battling an addiction and coming out on the losing end. The only conflict in the scene is with himself.
