She's very talented and I tend to like those Brits and their ways. I love that "Mad with power" quote.
I couldn't watch Notes, the whole premise made me so mad and I wish she and Blanchette wouldn't have done it.
As a rather quiet older single person - i.e. "SCARY LONER" - well I get pretty sick of it. I've had a normal average life, except the marriage and kids thing just didn't happen for me which shouldn't feel like some sort of crime although it tends to. Most of us I'm pretty sure are quite normal, maybe even more normal than most.
She is wonderful. In a too short interview with NPR's Susan Stamburg, you might hear several things you didn't know about her. Here is a link to the public radio program Hearing Voices' segment where Ms Stamburg revisits stories she presented "as part of my 478 years at National Public Radio." The interview with Dame Judi begins at 42 minutes in. You can move the slider after you click/start the blue play button. The whole program is wonderful, I love the story about the lady in a Paris park with the "Hello, Let's Talk" sign
I love it that British actors (in general) tend to live celebrity-less lives which allows them to become fully absorbed in the different characters that they play and us able to better believe them in those roles.
I'll admit, she even has a few years on me! But I've always been enchanted by "Dame Judith". I caught (finally) "Mrs. Brown" on our comcast free movies the other night and it was great. Unfortunately most Americans probably know her just from playing "M" in the last 25 or 30 (at least since '95) James Bond movies. I haven't watched a Bond film since aobut '76 so I missed her in all those.
I had seen her in some TV stuff when I lived overseas, and thinking back I probably went a long time before seeing her in "Shakespeare In Love". I'd say her performance as Queen Victoria ranks up there with her performance in "Notes On A Scandal".

I think she is a great actress. I liked her as "M" in the James Bond movies and also enjoy watching her in reruns on PBS of "As Times Goes By".
Judi Dench is a national treasure. A title bestowed on but few...... There is a wonderful clip of her on you-tube singing 'Send In The Clowns' from the show A Little Night Music. She is performing at the Albert Hall in front of thousands of people. You could hear a pin drop. She is a truly great actress.
I was talking with a man who was telling me that his wife, Lisa Harrow, had quite a history when she was young with the RSC. She played opposite Judi Dench for two years in the early 1970's.
