7 Days in Havana (Spanish: 7 días en La Habana) is a 2012 Spanish-language anthology film. Set during a week in the Cuban capital Havana, the film features one segment for each day, each segment directed by a different filmmaker. The directors are Julio Medem, Laurent Cantet, Juan Carlos Tabío, Benicio del Toro, Gaspar Noé, Pablo Trapero and Elia Suleiman. The screenplay was written by the Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura Fuentes.[2] The film is a co-production between companies in Spain, France and Cuba. It was shot on location in Havana.
I rather liked it. Oh, it's nothing stellar, but it kept me locked in, entertained for its 1 hour 37 minutes.
I had never heard of it. I just randomly picked a DVD out of the Crime Wave DVD package, put it in, and started watching it. So, given the comments, I never saw it on MST3000.
If you have a good villain in a movie, it can bring it up a lot......and John Saxon is like Jay Robinson....wonderfully slimy.
People say that he manages to solve the case by accident but if so, it reminds me of the satire MAD magazine did on "The FBI" where the episode is going no where until they have a car chase and they solve the case. I don't know if it was quite like that but........
I like many of Jason Reitman's films (every one that I've seen!), including Kindergarten Cop (1990) with Penelope Ann Miller being the draw, Thank You for Smoking (2005), Juno (2007), Up in the Air (2009), and Young Adult (2011). I think the last four are essential viewing. This is his third collaboration with writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult, Tully). Some are calling the three Reitman / Cody films a trilogy - with the last two starring Charlize Theron as the main protagonist. I initially ranked this #10 for 2018 films and after thinking about it, moved it up to #5. I rank 2017 films with 2018 U.S. release dates in my 2018 list, so depending on how you do it, this one could be #3 (#1 and #2 are 2017).
As horror or sci fi, it rather sucks. I thought it was a gripping end of the world flick which is why I wasn't ready to touch it for weeks. It isn't at all. As far as that theme goes, the only character with real impact and meaning is a minor character.
Now, as a love story, it is pretty decent.....on the mediocre level.
About Schmidt (2002), with Jack Nicholson. Since someone in my family is getting ready to retire.
