The Book Thief. It made me cry, but so did the book, so I should have expected it.
I've been trying to get the book, but there's a wait list at my library and my holds are full. I was able to put the audio recording version on hold though.

I saw it on PBS last night, pretty good fun movie, it was filmed on location in NYC summer 1971
only thing weird was seeing shots of WTC twin towers then still under construction.
Philomena, starring the incomparable Judi Dench; she was absolutely wonderful, and so was the film.
