I don't watch many movies but but....

A Room with a View(1985)-You'd love it if you're into E.M. Forster and Edwardian era of England. And it's always nice to see the young selves of some very respected actors working nowadays(Daniel Day-Lewis,Judi Dench,Maggie Smith,Helena Bonham Carter etc.)

Hannah and Her Sisters(1986)-One of the best Woody Allen films imo.

Fatal Attraction(1987)-I don't think there's any introduction needed.

Dangerous Liaisons(1988)-Another fantastic performance by Glenn Close, this time with the awesome Michelle Pfeiffer.

My Neighbor Totoro(1988)-A fantastic Japanese animation.A real must-see

Cinema Paradiso(1989)-I think this movie is so well-known that you've probably have seen it.An Italian gem.

Howards End(1992)-Emma Thompson delivered such layered performance.Again you'd love it if you're into E.M. Forster or Edwardian era of England.

The Piano(1993)-Holly Hunter's performance in it is probably one of the best acting performances in the history of cinema. And Anna Paquin delivered one of the best child acting performance as well.It was so raw and powerful and unusual.Oh and the music is just jaw-droppingly awesome

Before Sunrise(1995)-First part of this shining, golden trilogy. One of the best trilogies in the history of cinema.A must-see

Sense and Sensibility(1995)-Emma Thompson not only starred in it,but also wrote the screenplay. The adaptation is even better than the original novel by Jane Austen. Both Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet were fantastic in it.

There is a movie of Arnold about Mars from the year 1990. It was so good.

I strongly suggest it.

I prefer comedy and action, but any movie genre is welcome.

Does anyone have any suggestions for movies that were released during that 10 year period that are classics?

There are plenty of movies to watch from those years. Back then movies came out so fast, you didn't need to rush to the theaters to see them. A movie could be released in Jan, by the end of Feb it was premiering on HBO.

Here is a small list of movies to check from 1985: Action/Adventure/Comedy

Back to the Future
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Rocky IV
Cocoon
The Jewel of the Nile
The Goonies
Spies Like Us
American Ninja
Brewster's Millions
Commando
The Last Dragon
Red Sonja
Santa Claus: The Movie
Summer Rental
Teen Wolf
Weird Science

Lots of great suggestions so far, but I haven't seen the best movie of the '90s mentioned yet:

It came out in '97, so it's technically outside your window.

More '90s classics:

GOODFELLAS
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
FARGO
UNFORGIVEN
JFK (not good history, but the most brilliantly edited movie I have ever seen)

The name of the movie is Total Recall. You gotta watch this one if you didn't watch.
