I really have to want to see a movie to sit through the cell phones ringing, people talking at the screen or visiting each other, food throwers, rowdy kids, crying babies or having the sound so loud my ears are bleeding and I get a headache before it ends.
If I could find a movie house that would just let me watch a movie in peace I would be there 3 or 4 times a month!
I paid to watch the movie and eat some popcorn, not everything else I have to endure.
It's extremely irritating to me when people can't stop talking in a theater. Or when a kid kicks the back of my seat. Or the family that takes turns getting up to go to the restroom or snackbar, thus having butt after butt cross my face. (This is my caveat for insisting on aisle seats.)
And, yes, the sound is often way too loud. I don't understand this.
Haven't yet noticed any ringing cells or people chatting on them, but I'd be liable to say something if I do.
I usually go to the latest showing in the middle of the week. Usually there are only a few people in there, especially if a film has been out over a week or so.

I haven't been to the movies since 1987 because of this.

This is the key, when you attend. We always go mid week, and when we can, afternoon mid week or first showing. There are usually just a few movie goers (who probably feel the same way we do) and it makes for a far more enjoyable experience.
I wouldn't say I limit going because of it but it sure is annoying. The couple behind us last night kept talking out loud. The guy actually answered his cell phone at the beginning of the movie and one of them would tap their feet loudly enough to vibrate my seat everytime a song came on during the show.
I go maybe once or twice a year if that and only if it's a film I have been dying to see and can't wait a few months for dvd. The reason is for all the reasons the OP listed. If I am shelling out that kind of money I do not want to hear anything except the film itself and in this day and age that is going the way of the dinosaur sadly. I end up getting so aggravated sometimes that I spend the film fantasizing about shoving the cell phones I hear up the users behinds or beating them over the head with it and end up missing out on the film lol.
