I can remember crying when I was 9 or 10 years old during a movie about a boy and his dog. It was called "Where the Red Fern Grows."
But "Its a Wonderful Life" still gets me.
Also a movie that makes me cry that could be called a guy movie, "PhoneBooth." When Stu breaks down and confesses the lie he has been living and how underneath he feels like he isnt as good as others. Makes me so sad.
animal movies are tough.
the yearling with greg peck was tough for the boy.
the incredible journey when they finally make it back home.
milo and otis when they finally reunite.
hug your dogs!!!
my brother-in-law rented Old Yeller for his nearly teenage son. He was crying so much they vowed not to rent it for him again.
I've never seen Old Yeller. I have this idea in my head that the dog dies, or the mean ol' dad makes the kid give away the dog, or the dog dies while saving the kid or family or some such. Whatever the case, I just know that I'd have a hard time with it. I was sobbing at the end of Marley & Me, and that wasn't even tragic...I mean, Marley lived a good long life and the writing was on the wall. You pretty much knew how that story was going to end. But still, I blubbered into my own dog's ruff and kept telling him how much I loved him. Likewise, I went to see Eight Below in the theatres -- because, helloo...Siberian Huskies, which is what I have -- and nearly embarrassed myself trying to stifle my weeping.
There should be an explicit warning in the MPAA. Where it says, "Rated PG for Language and Scenes of Peril" they should also include, "And the soul-ripping death of a dog."
