When the Samuel Jackson and John Travolta characters leave the diner at the end of PULP FICTION Jackson has the briefcase with Gold(?). However that was out of sequence in the time line. Travolta was killed by the Bruce Willis character in the timeline after the Diner sequence. When Jackson and Travolta left with the lone survivor and then Travolta accidentally shot him they had to have had the briefcase then. Who got it?

I guess no one knows. I'll have to get the DVD and invite some SMART people over and see if we can figure it out.

In the Tarantino fashion of going back and forth in time, I believe the scene where Travolta gets into a minor confrontation at the bar with Bruce Willis is where they were returning the briefcase and it's contents (heroin?) to Mr. Wallace.

Thanks CoolHand. I think you may be right. I loved that movie but figuring out the timeline drove me crazy. Although I liked it I didn't want to have to watch it again just to figure out where the briefcase ended up. Another question that went unanswered in the movie for me anyway was what was in the case? I assumed Gold bars from the way the light reflected onto the face of the viewers but maybe it was Heroin wrapped in Gold foil?

I always thought we were never supposed to 'know' what was in the briefcase, keep us guessing.

I figured the look on Travolta's face when he opened the briefcase alluded to the contents being heroin, since he was a heroin addict. I just always assumed it was heroin or possibly coke. Something that those kids stole in order to sell for their own profit.

Jackson had possession of the briefcase, so it must be assumed they finished breakfast and gave the briefcase back to Marcellus.
The sequences of Vincent dating Marcellus wife, the meeting before the fight, the retrieving the gold watch and the death of Vincent, all happen after the brief case was returned (in that sequence I beleive).

The real question is - did Jules leave his occupation to "walk the earth". My other question is (rather, a comment) - The gimp - wtf? As for the briefcase, you aren't supposed to know what's in it. It's simply a prop. Originally Tarantino proposed that the brief case would be full of diamonds, he decided that leaving it open to the viewers interpretation would be more effective. Some have proposed that it was Marcelluses soul, but no answer is correct.

I don't think it was assumed necessarily that the transfer happened between Samuel L. Jackson and Marcellus Wallace. Instead, I think there is actually a brief shot in the background of Marcellus Wallace opening the case and examining the contents after greeting S.L. Jackson in the bar scene with Travolta (dressed in his dork clothes from Tarantino's house) and Willis ("I'm not your friend, punchy!"). This is confusing because in a linear timeline this scene immediately follows the restaurant encounter with Tim Roth.

Are any of you posters old enough to appreciate the connection to the forties movie "Air Force"?
