I suppose a reality talent show is less expensive than a regular television series. No contracts with actors or script writers. And I guess we have to find something for all these unemployed people to do. Considering the other junk on TV, another talent show isn't the worst thing that could happen. What would be worst is another Real Housewives show. Spare us!
I'd rather see a musical talent show than some of that other stuff on TV. I do like The Voice, The Sing Off, and America's Got Talent, though. Thinking back, I had to remind myself that TV talent shows aren't really that new. As a kid, I remember watching Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts and Ted Mack's Amateur Hour. Interestingly, both Elvis and Wayne Newton appeared on TM's Amateur Hour in the early 50s and both lost. Crazy huh?
We seem to be flooded with them now but that's probably because we have a gazillion channels on television where as back then, we had three stations (ABC, CBS, NBC) Talent shows are great but there does come a time when we're getting too much of a good thing. JMO, of course
as far as reality TV goes, I'm not really into it. However at least these shows are offering a talent (of sorts) and are not just about people sitting around in a house, or being housewives (seriously )...
I always found this interesting about Elvis because so many people think it just happened overnight for him.
Elvis failed an audition for a local vocal quartet, the Songfellows. He explained to his father, "They told me I couldn't sing."
Elvis' friend Ronnie Smith, after playing a few local gigs with him, suggested he contact Eddie Bond, leader of Smith's professional band, which had an opening for a vocalist. Bond rejected him after a tryout, advising Presley to stick to truck driving "because you're never going to make it as a singer."

Thank God he didn't listen to their useless advice.
I can't imagine music without Elvis
That song is beautiful.... I think I have to check out more of Lana Del Rey, thanks for turning me on to cool new music
