In the imoortal words of MIchael Douglas' character Jack, in "Romancing the Stone"
" $hit...the Doobie Brothers broke-up!"
My sentiments exactly. Anyway, here's one of my favorites of theirs; A song that alot of people forget about when theny think of the Doobs. (I think part of the reason I dig this song so much is cuz I lived it! LOL.)
Gentlearts, just the way you worded that story cracked me up..........you made my day lol.
Drummerboy, wow I owe you one. When I was a kid, I had one of those "themed" 8 tracks, with lots of different songs by different artists. Many of the songs were lesser-known, including South City Midnight Lady. I was just a little kid but even I knew that was an amazing song.......played it 1000 times! But then I forgot about it, until you reminded me of a true classic. If you've never heard it, it's a sweet, mid-tempo, groovy song. I'm gonna go get it right now lol....(BigBadJohn, you put a classic one up too............they broke some thematic ground with that one).
Thanks for all the responses everyone!
OK. Since Michael McDonald was discussed in the Christopher Cross thread just now, I open the forum to this.
Do you like Doobie Brothers better with Tom Johnston at vocals or Michael McDonald ? "Stampede" was the last album with Johnston at Vocals. McDonald debut was "Taking to it to the Streets."
McDonald certainly has more talent and range than Johnston. However, I like their harder rocking style which was more catered towards Johnston's vocals before McDonald joined.
which had 2 songs covered by The Pointer Sisters. The album was pretty good but nothing beats Toulouse Street and The Captain
