Molina originally became well-known as a comedienne and TV guest in her native Argentina. As it turns out, her sideline as an experimental/electronic recording artist is what brought her international attention. This track is pretty impressive on lot of levels.
For anyone who might think electronic music is not "musicianly", this might help them see things a little differently.
Minekawa was perhaps one of the most inventive of the late 90's shibuya-kei movement, before spending something like 15 years in retirement. She was an auteur, and wrote most of her own stuff. She also covered very peculiar selections of Western pop songs, which would be rendered only semi-recognizable in her style.
"1.666666" is both typical and atypical of her style. It is introverted, somewhat claustrophobic, trance-inducing, and vaguely forlorn, like much of her work. It is couched in electronica that takes some very loopy turns, and the instrumentation effects are exotic and strange. This is a little more "rock" than her stuff usually sounds; it almost sounds like The Count Five or other 60's garage band, except for the electronic sheen that encapsulates it in haze. Anyway, I'm a big fan...
