Do you think over time we will remember Jack White, both for his White Stripes work and independant stuff as a great guitarist and songwriter for the 2000s? Is he the first great mainstream American guitarist for Generation Y?

Yes, he has to be respected a lot. His work with Loretta Lynn on Van Lear Rose was awesome!

Don't forget his production work. I think he's a stellar producer. His recordings have a distinct sound. His new one is a great example.

He is up there. But, he is not the only one. There are many that I can't think of at the moment but will eventually. Vic Chesnutt who passed away 12/09 and the Joseph Arthur are just two of many great artist out there. Regarding Joseph Arthur he is easily the Bob Dylan of the 21st century!

I don't know if he'll be remembered as a great songwriter. I like his music, but I wouldn't call him a great songwriter.
As a guitarist, he's already considered one of the greats. It Might Get Loud cements that for all eternity.
It Might Get Loud really gave me even more respect for Jack White as an artist, & the fact that he is a guitar God. And what surprised me was how embarrassed I was for Edge- he is not in the same league as Jimmy Page & Jack White, not even close. I think he looked like an amateur next to two guitar greats. And this is coming from a die-hard U2 fan.

I really liked that doco, also made me respect Jack White even more, was impressed when he made that guitar.
Don't mind Edge, but he's no Jimmy Page
