Switching gears a bit more, here's what I would call gospel jazz. This featured artist converted to Christianity while he was a budding crooner in Atlantic City. An incredible testimony.
You may or may not have heard of this Motown artist, but her career in the 1960s was all-too-brief. She had retired from the music scene from the end of that decade until 1992, the year that Mary Wells had passed away. And, to this day, she is continuing to perform for audiences.
This band has tried as hard as it could to maintain its own name and identity through the years. It consisted of members from the old Jefferson Airplane, and some former members jumped ship (pun intended) to form Starship in the late '80s, despite protests from originating member Paul Kantner.
