What is your favortie decade(s) of music and why??? (bands, dance)

For me, I love the music of the mid 20th century, particularly the 1970s and 1980s. Music artists of today like Britney Spears, Beyonce, Nickelback, and so on cannot even compete with the likes of Bee Gees, Foreigner, Elvis Presley, etc.

While I dont feel that modern pop/rock music decades really follows the decades to the exact year, more like:

1955-1964
1965-1974
1975-1984
1985-1994
1995-2004
2005-xxxx


So while I picked 1960's, my favorite decade would be 1965-1974, followed by the previous and next decades.

The why.

Just about every thing had a place on radio.FM (when it came out) was experimental and AM was exciting. Both were always playing new music (nothing was played for more then a couple of months, even the biggest hits). Artists released new music all the time, not just once every two or three years.

Those that grew up during those years, were exposed 10 times the music on radio as people are currently exposed to. (even with the internet, nobody is helping you sort through all of the noise)

I'll take 3 minor 60's acts over almost all the current hitmakers.

That is exactly what I was going to post, plannine! Mid- to late-60s and early 70s is my favorite period.

I like the music from the 1980 era. I was born in 1971 so I don't quite remember the music from back then only the one's I hear on the oldies stations and commercials on TV for CD purchases of the past. And the music of now is HORRIBLE. So to me 1980's music was the best

1970's by far, although some 60's and 80's bands are very good too.

Lets see, you have the Eagles, The Beetles, Don McLean, Led Zepplin, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, AC/DC, Boston, Kiss, Genesis, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Kansas, Queen, Doobie Brothers, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, WINGS, Allman Brothers, etc. Do I need to say anything else?

I grew up in the 80s so they are closest to my heart. It's the only decade that I like from beginning to end. I especially love the "second British invasion," new wave and the New Romantics. I'm a Wham!/ Duran Duran/Culture Club girl through and through.

I like the 70's and 80's the most probably, because those were the years I was growing up, though I have found songs I enjoy from other decades, particularly the 1960's, since it informed the music of the 70's and 80's, just like the 70's and 80's informed the music of the 90's and today.

80s. It was a decade of high energy and music that was positive. The summer of '83 with Chicago House Music being played continuously on WGCI and WBMX generated a spirit of power in me that will last the rest of my life. Unforgettable and unmatched period for music.

I guess a lot of people have affection for the music of the decade in which they came of age.
I prefer the present: the 21st Century.

In the summer of 1972, I was 17, so I know something about 60's-70's music.
I saw some magnificent bands at the height of their powers (for cheap prices!)
That fruitful decade shaped me--I never lost my enthusiasm for new stuff.

I *really* love listening to music, all kinds of music, and there is so much great stuff out there right now:
TV On the Radio, Derek Trucks, Of Montreal, Feist, Jack White's various incarnations, St Vincent, The Decemberists, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Glasgow in particular has been a musical hotbed.
Just as in the 70's, today's bands can be fluid, with collaborations, creative differences, members joining/leaving (Belle and Sebastian, Arab Strap, Iron and Wine, Postal Service, Le Tigre,Neutral Milk Hotel.)
When I listen to My Morning Jacket's "One Big Holiday," Sons and Daughters' "Dance Me In," LCD Soundsystem's "American Scum," Iron and Wine's "Such Great Heights," or Le Tigre's Deceptacon, I know that the music thrives.

This is not to diss the 70's.
In a way, it is a salute to that time.
It's just that while I love the old stuff, and still listen to it, I enjoy embracing the new.
