Al Bowlly is captivating more and more people as we happen upon his music. Then, I found this sometimes after I had learned more about the man who is considered the creator of crooning. For me, Al leaves all others behind due to the emotional power in his music. He is a tragic symbol of his era. This song sums it up: The man is a victim of the war, and so is Bowlly~soldier and civilian, respectively.
Actually, that's Al Bowlly, not John Abriani, speaking at the start! Imagine this from the Twenties and sounding so wonderful! Like Bowlly devotees wouldn't know our guy's voice...=}
