The song was a popular piece in the '50s, and it was introduced in a movie entitled, "The Joker Is Wild". Many artists would subsequently do the song after Frank did it (Jeffrey Osborne, Celine Dion, and Lou Rawls among others). Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen co-wrote the song around 1957.

Personally, I"ve never been a fan of Rita Hayworth, who is a Hollywood makeover to the nth degree. That's not even her voice (Martha Mears dubbing), which is true nearly every time she sings! And, I don't think she's a graceful dancer, just somebody who learned the steps. So, how long before I tune away from "Tonight and Every Night"? I generally like musicals, but... As a female, I guess I just don't "get" Rita's draw. It's definitely a guy thing~like Ava Gardner.
