I've noticed this trend for a while now. Once a music video is put on vevo the views will multiply by 10 or sometimes more. How does this happen? Are they being artificially inflated somehow?
They are official videos. I think they are proved by the record companies.
I don´t know why the views multiply, but I prefer to view them when I find them.
Good, strong, loud volume too. You never know what you are getting elsewhere. Other sources have mislabeled bootleg alternative outtakes as well. 1950's Rock is terrible for this on YouTube. Never heard "that" corny version of The Coasters etc..etc.. before!
Vevo won't do that, nor put up inferior quality audio/video YouTubes.

Proved? Do you mean promoted? I never see them promoting a song other than on another song posted on vevo. Maybe they do a lot of promoting in other countries.

Ok, but that that doesn't apply to new music. They all have good sound and audio quality. For some reason I'm drawing a blank, but one song in particular had something like 10 million views then the next thing I know it had over 50 million after being put on vevo. That doesn't make sense to me.

They are the official music video releases for many major acts whether it is pop or even rock. The other thing I notice is that you watch one video, the suggestions are basically what you would expect to follow the video on arty MTV, VH1 or Fuse.

Must have been very tired.
Promoted or not they are official videos and as Busse says you don´t have to listen to crappy alternative versions if you are not looking for them.
I have seen people that film videos right off their own tv screens and put them on You Tube.

That and for some artists you have their fan-base watch the videos like twenty times or so and share the videos several times through facebook and twitter saying this is the best ever...
