If you are a musician (play an instrument or sing), would you be interested in participating in a new forum which would be for discussing musician related topics, such as playing techniques, discussion about instruments you own or may want to purchase, and other various musician related topics?

I also made this same suggestion in the Administration Zone, but I think more people will read my idea in this forum, so I am including it here as well, with a Poll, so we can see what people think about this idea for a new forum?

The current Music forum seems to be mostly for people to discuss famous songs and famous musicians.

My idea would be for creating a new forum for those of us who play musical instruments as a hobby, and want to discuss the topic with other musicians here at City-Data.

This new forum would be created as a sub-forum under Hobbies and Recreation.

If you're interested, please respond to this poll.

It won´t happen as there hardly is any discussions about it now.
Administrator needs to see some activity before starting new forums.

I think it's more like which came first ... "the chicken or the egg"?

Once the new forum is created, musicians would then have a place to post their threads.

Presently, the Music forum doesn't attract these types of discussions, since this forum is always about famous songs and famous musicians.

I have never seen anyone discuss their own musical abilities, or instruments they play.

But I've gotten reps from 8 people for my other thread in the Administrative Zone, so there is definitely an interest by other people in having a Musicians forum.

I created this poll thread, so I can see who in this Music forum would be interested in a new Musicians forum, since I figured lots of people in this forum probably play instruments themselves.

So we'll just have to wait and see the results of this poll?

Who here is a musician?

Musicians -- Does technical expertise amaze you?

All You Guitar Players Out There---What Are You Playing?

I went back just a few pages and found these threads. Personally, I think a your idea is a good one. I voted yes. Some of us non-musicians could learn a lot about music with such a thread.

Grand idea. Oddly enough, I think it would thrive outside of this music forum. More people read than post. That has to account for something. Good luck!

Strange . . . I clicked on "Music" to see if any new guitar threads were posted, and this pops up . . .

So, obviously, a big "YES" for me.

There is a difference in guitar/musician related threads on CD vs. musician specific forums because people dont come here for guitar-music information. They are people who are interested in traveling and lots of other stuff, so there usually is much better commentary than going to a guitar/musician specific forum and reading 100's of posts from little kids arguing about Van Halen and posting " __ __ __ __ __ sucks" stuff.

Yes, this is precisely the reason I think a new Musicians forum would be beneficial here at City-Data.

Musicians are not interested in scanning through hundreds of threads about famous rock songs and music trivia, when all we want to read are threads about playing our own instruments.

And we are more likely to start many more new threads about our instruments in a dedicated Musicians forum.

Someone else mentioned about people coming to City-Data for information on relocating to a new city, and wanting to know about the artist and musicians scene in that city.

A Musicians forum would likely be the best place to get an answer about the musicians scene in a particular city, since their answer would be coming directly from other musicians.

I wish they would. I'm always searching for musician related items on here, as I can get on city-data at work with no issues, but some of the other musician forums I'm on I can't. And they are typically so "brand" specific so to speak, that the discussions aren't as diverse. I think we have a lot of musicians on here, we're just so spread out in the different forums with no place to congregate and discuss.

There is definitely PLENTY of room for threads for, by, to or from musicians in this forum. (It's been the same threads on the first page for well over a year).

It also teaches and gives insight to those who are, actually, into music.

I only play a harmonica left by my great grandfather, and not well so I don't consider myself a musician, but I appreciate the craft.
