Another prog group that didn't catch on in the States is the Strawbs. They started close to 40 years ago and stayed with A&M Records until they switched to Polydor, who I believe did not do them any favors. Give them a try. Their best period, IMHO, is from Grave New World to Ghosts, released in early '75. My favorite is Bursting At The Seams. Dave Cousins 1980 LP, Two Weeks Last Summer, is great as well.

Just dug out [literally] some Blodwyn Pig. Any US fans these days?
YouTube - Blodwyn Pig - The Modern Alchemist

They are also entangled in one of those Rock Family trees that seem to go on forever. Manfred Mann,,Greenslade,,and Aviator to name a few..Initial founder Mick Abrahams is still treading the old boards today..

He`s certainly gone back to his blues roots..

YES!! You knew who he was all along...

There is one here! I bought "Micks Back" CD not too long ago and was pleased with it. The Blodwin Pig site has some interesting stuff on there. Mick was in the original lineup in Jethro Tull's early years and put out an LP called The Mick Abraham's Band around the same time the Blodwin Pigs 2 LP's came out. There is some good info on Wikipedia on him.Just turned 65- hasn't slowed him down a bit. Good for him!

That is great news Linc! I love this group. Got hooked onto them by the time Cruel Sister came out in the Spring of'71. By that time John Renbourn and Bert Jansch had a couple of solo LP's already out. Jacqui McShee was/is a great vocalist. Favorite album is Cruel Sister, and Sweet Child. What the heck, the whole catalog is good. I saw John Renbourn in concert many years ago. The Swallow Music Assn. had him in and performed a great set. It was a fundraiser for the assn. itself, based in Denver. Very able guitarist. Thanks for that (and the last few music links as well).

I`ve been on a real GONG excursion for the last few days. I`d forgotten just how good they were..I`ve got half a dozen of the early albums [69 through 73] and wondered if anyone has some of the later stuff and an opinion on it ??

Gong (band - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
There`s a handful of stuff on youtube

I have a few Gong albums myself Linc!. There are connections with Daevid Allen, the groups founder, with the groups National Health and also Hatfield Of The North that I need to investigate. Angels Egg, Flying Teapot, and you are some their better LP's. When Aellen and Pierre Morlan became the leader, a lot of other artists were doing guest bits with the band, Allen Holdsworth, Steve Hillage, and Mike Oldfield are a few that I can think of. I need to pull their site up; been a while since they have done anything I'm aware of.
