This song is so unbelievably awesome (cover).

The original, not as much.

Do you have a favorite cover that is better than the original?

Depends on the song.

"Little Suzi" - Tesla (cover) > PhD (Original)

"Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns n' Roses (original) > Sheryl Crow (cover)

I agree it depends on the song. I have heard covers that blow the original away and I have heard some that were awful.

For me, it depends on who is covering the song.

God bless you and my favorite singers always!!!

Dream Theater did a pretty killer cover of it as well. The Deep Purple original is classic of course, as well. All appreciable.

I think covers like this are really important. It really bridges the gap for those who don't grasp what modern musicians are doing, what their style means, and how they appropriate it. Even the reverse (like Cash covering NIN) translates across the mediums.

Depends. There are a couple covers that I prefer over the original though, such as:

Take Me To The River - Talking Heads (1978) >>> Take Me To The River - Al Green (1974)

And I really like both versions, but the Talking Heads cover just a little bit more.

Also, this cover blows the original away by miles:

This (The Clash, that is) reminds me that there are some covers that are awesome in their own way, although maybe not better or worse than their originals.

Thought you might appreciate this one. It's way better than Neil Young's.

Also, I can't find a YouTube video of it, but as much as I love the original "God of Thunder" by Kiss, Godhead does an amazing cover of it. Here's about half of it on Soundcloud. You can find the rest on Spotify, or maybe another music service.
