Lotta post-punk bands experimenting with funk at the time. Kids tended to act too cool to dance though. Here are a couple that would practically lasso you onto the dance floor just hearing them. C'mon, shoe-gazers! It's OK to move your hips and shoulders to the beat, just one or two times a year!
This may not be considered a dance tune in everyone else's opinion, but it is at the top of this girl's list. To me, my late beautiful precious does the song that way that it should have been done in the first place. CRANK IT UP!!!

I don't know that much about punk, but I like the first song. But then, that's Talking Heads who had that huge hit in 1983 called Burning Down The House:
How many people realize that "White Lines" is actually a cover of a Liquid Liquid song, "Cavern"? (Actually, a complete rip-off that demoralized Liquid Liquid's record label.) Hear for yourself, they deserve the shout-out:
