I remember my mum quite fondly as she always rocked and sang us kids to sleep every night. Here's a few of my favorites. Did your parents do the same? Do you remember these songs, or do you have some of your own?

YouTube - Oh, Playmate, Come out and Play with Me

Kookaburra sittin on the ol gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is he,
laugh, kookaburra, laugh kookaburra, gay your life must be...

YouTube - Kookaburra Song

YouTube - Gracie Fields The Woodpecker Song 1940

She's quite the charmer.
I just read her interview in this silly, old thing.

Other than that though, I don't remember my mother singing.
I think she was embarrassed of her own voice. Which is odd as she was (*embarrassingly*) outspoken in every other respect.

I used to love this song too, and later figured out it caused some controversy...

My dad was the singer. Two of his favorites:

Marzy doats and goats eat oats and little lambs eat ivy.

I'm a po-la! A pretty little poppy!

I'm not sure of the actual lyrics. Both songs were open for interpretation.

But he sang all the time. Happy memory. He had such a good voice people would ask him to sing at gatherings.
